This week Downtown Ministries, our partner with Our Daily Bread, has begun an effort to provide what is being called “Blessing Bags” for the Our Daily Bread (ODB) guests. These will have items that will help to meet the hygiene needs for these neighbors in our community.

This effort is targeted for our current quarantine period. Below is a list of the items for each bag, instructions for how to package them, and when you can drop these off in our church parking lot. (Safe distancing and appropriate practices are being followed with this drop off).

Items to purchase:

  • baby wipes
  • bar soap
  • washcloth
  • deodorant
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrush
  • tampons/maxipads
  • granola bars
  • bottled water

Instructions:

  1. Pack items into a gallon sized Ziploc freezer bag (ex. 1 bar of soap, 1 washcloth, 1 toothbrush, 1 toothpaste, 1 deodorant, 8 tampons, 4 granola bars). Keep bottled water separate!
  2. Drop your Blessing Bags and bottled water off at the Branyon Foyer Entrance of First Baptist Church of Athens on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 and 10:00 am, beginning on Tuesday, April 7th.
  3. Make sure you maintain at least a 6 feet distance from anyone else who may be dropping off supplies!
  4. We believe these items will be a big help to our guests, and we are excited for you to help in this way. If you have any questions or need clarification, please contact Lora Smothers.

Thank you again for your investment in Our Daily Bread Community Kitchen!
