Our Global Mission Project for the month of September is focusing on literacy both locally and on the mission field. There are several ways you can participate in this emphasis. You can purchase a book or books during our book drive this month. These books will go to Barrow Elementary School which is our partner school locally or you can also purchase for the Rio Grande Valley Literacy Center that CBF field personnel Diann Berry works with. Click here to sign up for the specific books requested by Barrow Elementary. Avid Bookshop has set up a convenient link to purchase these books or you may purchase them at a merchant of your choice.
Another way you can be involved is to adopt a First-grade class at Barrow and provide a backpack of books and a stuffed bear. Each class will have a Reading Buddy Backpack for the children to take turns bringing home to read over the weekend. The cost of the backpack with all the supplies is $80.00 and there are four First-Grade classes.
This month of literacy is also a time to sign up to be a Barrow Reading Buddy and commit to reading with a First-Grade child at Barrow once a week. If you are interested in more information about this opportunity contact Janet Cleland.
On September 29, we will be collecting books in honor of GLOBAL MISSION SUNDAY for Barrow Elementary and the Rio Grande Valley Literacy Center. Please bring new books to the Rotunda prior to Sunday School and learn more about these partnerships.
You can also sign up to help with the Barrow Buddy Family Fall BBQ on Thursday, October 10. The theme will be one of literacy and that night we will present Barrow with all the books we have collected. Help will be needed to serve at the BBQ, set up and clean up and help with the children’s activities.
You may participate in as many of these opportunities as you like as we work to ensure that each child has the help needed to be able to read and write.
