The schedule for our election process is as follows with all resident church members nominating up to 12 eligible members who meet the following criteria:

  • 21 years of age; have been members of First Baptist for 2 years by the time of balloting
  • Regular in attendance and support of FBC service
  • Financially supportive of the church
  • In the opinion of the person making the nomination, meet the Biblical principles and conditions set forth in Acts 6:3-6 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

 Dates to remember:
Wednesday, April 1: Last day for members to notify the church office requesting that your name only appear on the Ineligible List.
Wednesday, April 8: Deacon Election Ballots to be mailed.
Tuesday, April 21: Deacon Election Ballots due back in the church office for counting.

Opt-Out Status
If anyone does not want their name to be placed on the Eligible for Nomination list for consideration on the deacon election ballot, please submit a request to the church office IN WRITING to opt-out by April 1.  You may send this request to opt-out of the election by email to Cheri Rose, by mail addressed to P.O. Box  8107, Athens, GA 30603, or drop off the written request to the church office.

Emeritus Status

If a former deacon would like to seek Emeritus Status, you can do so by submitting a request in writing to the secretary of the deacons as stated in Church Policy for Deacon Emeritus Status. If you plan to request emeritus status in the near future and thus do not want your name to be placed on the upcoming election ballot, please submit this request to the church office in writing by April 1.
