You are invited to sign up for one of the two sessions of our 2020 Summer Bible study series, Open to Lead. There will be two options for small group sessions in August. Our facilitators are Mike Cleland, Sarah Littlefield, Christopher Adams, and Jennifer Baxley. The virtual option will be offered via Zoom on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. An additional small group option will be offered in-person, in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. These groups will begin meeting August 4 or August 6.
Open to Lead
These four sessions invite us to look to individuals who stand out for their impact then identify characteristics of leadership. These people and characteristics from scripture and more recent times serve to inspire and inform us about leading in challenging times.
Session 1: Courage: Speaking Truth to Power
Combines the biblical story of Nathan who confronts David in 2 Samuel 12:1-13 and the historical person Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Session 2: Taking a Stand When it’s Unpopular
Combines the biblical story of Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 13-14 and the historical Person Ida B. Wells.
Session 3: Advocacy
Combines the biblical stories of Barnabas in Acts and the historical person Malala Yousafzai.
Session 4: Willingness and Commitment
Combines the biblical Story Phoebe in Romans 16:1-2 and the historical person Florence Nightingale.
- Registration is necessary for the Tuesday small group so that you can receive the link to join the Zoom call.
- Sign up for the Thursday small group meeting in the Fellowship Hall is also necessary as it is limited to 20 participants. Masks will be required for everyone attending.
The Tuesday study will meet on August 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Each of the four leaders will facilitate a session.
Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. will meet in-person in the Fellowship Hall on August 6, 13, 20, and 27. This in-person small group is limited to 20 people. Each of the four leaders will facilitate a session. Participants are required to wear masks at all times (entering the building, during the session, and departing). The Fellowship Hall will be set up to provide for appropriate physical distancing.
